WITCHY VIBES

Price: €81,000 Size: 6 bed, 2 bath. 📍 Location: Björnöström, Sweden

Sculptor Theodor Karlsson built this villa at the turn of the century, inspired by Russia and the Russian imperial style. Björnöström 7 is a stunning villa with wonderful architecture that reflects the visions of the 1800s. It boasts six bedrooms, social spaces, and lovely windows that let in plenty of light and charm. Enjoy the authentic Småland village feel in picturesque Björnöström, just outside Virserum.

My favourite feature has got to be the little hat as I like to call it perched a top the home. It gives some serious witchy vibes and anyone who has watched Charmed would probably agree. It’s perfect if your day-to-day involves hexing your enemies.

ACCOUNTS WE LOVE

Beyond IKEA. & Why so many Cabins?

Keeping in line with the northern theme, today’s accounts we love will all be Scandiavian. Scandinavian style is a design and aesthetic movement popular for years now… Personally, I have never been a fan of Scandinavian style - interior or fashion. I am a through and through maximalist. I love color, abundance, imperfection…

Scandinavian style is known for simplicity, functionality, and natural elements. Heavily featuring clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and a palette of whites, grays, and earth tones. Common features include cozy textiles, natural wood accents, and an emphasis on light and space.

Let’s highlight some Scandi design accounts to follow for some minimalist house porn… and those that reject the modern Scandi tradition.

🇩🇰 Iconic Scandinavian Architecture: @BjarkeIngels - Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) isn't just a firm; it's a force in Danish architecture. Led by Bjarke himself, the mastermind behind some of the most iconic modern structures in Scandinavia and globally, like Google’s headquarters. His designs are known for integrating sustainability and functionality seamlessly, earning features in Vogue and Architectural Digest. Fun fact: He once designed a power plant that doubles as a ski slope

Check out a recent luxury resort Bjarke did on Japan’s Sagishima Island, blending Japanese and Scandinavian design:

🇳🇴 Trouble in Paradise: There is a counter-movement to the ultra-simplistic functional style that has gripped Scandinavia. For example, the account “Architectual Revival” often spotlights Norway’s capital, Oslo “Then and Now.” Many of the historical and ornate buildings in Oslo have been torn down in favor of modernist buildings in the 1970s. There have been growing calls to reverse these decisions and bring back the beauty of Oslo’s past.

🇸🇪 Lastly, what’s up with all the cabins? If you’ve ever been to Sweden, you may have seen an island…or two… or 267,570 islands. That is the actual amount of Islands making up Sweden’s archipelago. Like something out of a fairytale - these countless islands are scattered along the coast, each with its own charm and character.

These islands are most enjoyed during what the rest of Europe calls “Swedish Summer” where all the Swedish take off an entire month and retreat to an island cabin. It’s a cherished part of Swedish culture. So, yeah, that’s why there are so many fabulous cabins.
